Recently Mengfan Jiang (DLGS scholarship holder 2018-2021) successfully defended her PhD dissertation at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, TU Dresden.

One of the important milestones in the DLGS academic programme, the Summer School this year was held on Sep 21st, 2022 at the Deutsche Hygiene Museum Dresden, as a preceding event to the IOER Annual Conference.

DLGS fellows Tieza Mica Santos, Claire Gallacher, and Subhashree Nath participated in the International Sustainable Development Research Society (ISDRS) conference in Stockholm, Sweden from the 14th to the 17th of June.

The Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN) organized a week-long Methods School at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) from 06 – 10 June, 2022. Tieza Mica Santos from the DLGS 2020 cohort who participated in the training-workshop shares her key takeaways from the summer school.

With the intention of exploring means to apply their ongoing PhD dissertations to issues on the ground, DLGS-2021 fellows attended the Leibniz-Falling Walls workshop on “how to turn your PhD into a startup”. The workshop was organised by Leibniz Gemeinschaft and Falling Walls and was held in the Leibniz Institute for Analytical Science (ISAS), Dortmund on the 11th and 12th of May, 2022.

Tieza Mica Santos and Riyan Habeeb (Cohort 2020) recently participated in the 7th Network of Early Career Researchers in Sustainability Transitions (NEST) conference organized through a hybrid mode in Lyon, France from 4-6 May 2022.

The Summer School of the Dresden Leibniz Graduate School (DLGS) will take place on the day preceding the IOER annual conference. It addresses the overall conference topic "Space & Transformation: Liveable Futures", including all the tracks.

On 1st February, Nikita Sharma successfully completed her doctorate with the defense of her dissertation titled: "Urban Governance, Urbanization and Informal Sector in Solid Waste Management: A Case of Kathmandu, Nepal" at the Faculty of Architecture, TU Dresden. Her thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wende, Head of Research Area at the IOER, and Prof. Dr. Christina Dornack, Director of the Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy at TU Dresden.

Tieza Santos of cohort 2020 is now an elected member within the Leibniz PhD Network. She was elected as the Section B Spokesperson - Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften, Raumwissenschaften during the annual general assembly held a few months ago. The network aims to foster and strengthen the relationship as well as promote exchange among doctoral researchers within the Leibniz Association and beyond.
