Programme Structure

The DLGS is a joint, interdisciplinary programme of the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) and Dresden University of Technology (TUD). Conducted in English, it provides three years of funding for doctoral candidates to complete their dissertations—either as a monograph or a cumulative thesis. DLGS fellows are enroled in various faculties at TUD and earn their doctoral degrees from the university, while being actively involved in relevant IOER research areas. The curriculum includes both mandatory and elective formats that cover core, subject-specific, methodological, and skill development courses. Fellows are also supported in building their scientific networks through participation in local, national and international conferences and workshops. Scientific guidance is provided through Supervisory Board meetings, where candidates receive tailored feedback to support their academic progress.
