PhD Day 2024

PhD Day took place on the 28th of October 2024 at IOER, featuring a day-long programme that aimed at fostering engagement and learning among IOER and DLGS PhD candidates.

The event began with an interactive discussion where candidates shared ideas for improving the PhD journey and offered valuable input to enhance the PhD Handbook, a practical guide for current and future candidates. This was followed by an open Q&A session with IOER’s director and DLGS chair, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marc Wolfram, offering a space for candid conversations on various topics of relevance.

In the afternoon, a workshop on AI, led by Dr.-Ing. Riyan Habeeb and PhD candidate Lamiaa Ghoz, introduced effective AI tools for academic writing and research, sparking a thoughtful discussion on AI ethics in academia. The day concluded with a guided tour of the Mathematisch–Physikalischer Salon that showcased historic clocks and scientific instruments. After the museum visit, participants gathered for dinner and drinks, rounding off the day with a relaxed and friendly evening.

PhD Day serves as a vital platform for IOER and DLGS PhD candidates to connect, collaborate, and build a sense of community. It encourages the exchange of ideas, addresses shared challenges, and fosters meaningful engagement with the institute's leadership—all while promoting bonds in an informal setting.
