Summer School 2020

We are excited to announce that this year’s summer school will take place as a virtual event.
It is lined up with intriguing keynote lectures by Prof. Dr. Niki Frantzeskaki and Prof. Dr. Christina Dornack, and presentations from DLGS-IOER PhD fellows.

It will take place from 7th to 9th of September, 2020. The keynote lectures and sessions on the first two days are open to everyone.
The workshops on the third day are for DLGS-IOER fellows only.

Keynotes

Prof. Dr. Niki FrantzeskakiSwinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia 

Niki Frantzeskaki is Professor of Urban Sustainability Transitions and Director of the Centre for Urban Transitions at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia. Niki has published close to 100 peer-reviewed articles and in 2017 and 2018 released three books on urban sustainability transitions.

She has also edited 15 special issues in top-ranked journals about sustainability and sustainability transitions. She is coordinating research on environmental governance, and urban sustainability transitions by leading and being involved in a portfolio of research projects with research institutes across Europe, Canada, Brazil and Australia. She is actively contributing as an author in CBO, GEO-5, GEO-6 and IPBES assessments.

Prof. Dr. Christina DornackInstitute of Waste Management and Circular Economy, TU Dresden, Germany

Christina Dornack is the Director of the Institute and Chair for waste management and circular economy at TU Dresden. She has participated in several international projects, for example WATRA, SludgeTec, Waste to (positive) Energy and SEA-PLASTIC-EDU. She was recently appointed as a new member of the Advisory Council on Environmental Issues in Germany (SRU). She is also a member of the DLGS management board.

Additional to lecturing and researching she has published numerousness reports and research articles and has written textbooks in the area of waste management and circular economy. Since 1998 Christina has been organising the Anaerobic digestion conference (Biogastagung) in Dresden. Additionally, among other things, she is PRISMA board member, DBFZ research advisory committee member, DGAW scientific advisory board member, and DECHEMA panel of expert members. Her research focusses on circular economy, solid waste management, and anaerobic digestion and sustainability actions in cleaner production.
